Abbeville, LA: November 1st, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and November 2nd, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Abbeville Giant Omelette Celebration
Come share your experience with water hazards! Researchers and students at UL Lafayette are hosting a History Harvest about community experiences with local water hazards and crises at Abbeville Giant Omelette Celebration on November 1st between 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and November 2nd between 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. These short in-person interviews intend to examine how water crises and hazards have influenced your life and to come up with solutions for how to better engage communities in water hazard mitigation efforts.
At the History Harvest, we will:
- Have activities to examine water hazards in the area
- Collect 10-minute in-person interviews about your experiences with these hazards
- Donate local history interviews and materials to UL Lafayette archives to be preserved as community history
If you are interested in sharing your views on local water crises and hazards like the 2016 Floods, drainage issues in Vermilion Parish or surrounding areas, or concerns over drinking water, we look forward to seeing you at Abbeville Giant Omelette Celebration Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2nd!
This event is sponsored by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette through a research grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF Award # 2418434; www.HydroRISE.org) and organized by researchers at the UL Lafayette Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center, Department of History, Department of Civil Engineering, and UL Lafayette Louisiana Watershed Flood Center. To participate, you must be interested in water hazards or crises and ideally live or have lived at one time in the state of Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama. You must also be over the age of 18 and consent to being interviewed. You may leave the interview at any time. The only expected risk to you for taking part in this study is the potential re-traumatization or frustration felt by sharing prior water crisis experiences.
