Social Vulnerability & Historical Disproportionate Outcomes

Co-generate information on the causes and history of social vulnerabilities, disproportionate impacts, and gaps in adaptation planning across the three study regions.

Key Goals:

  • Tracing disproportionate outcomes through document analysis of over 680 planning documents and news articles (1970–present) across the study areas to identify historical factors influencing current distributions of water system hazards and infrastructure investment, and to connect these insights to current climate adaptation planning trends and gaps.
  • Mapping the historical evolution of social vulnerability in relation to changes in land use and land cover.
    • Stakeholders & Organizational Actors Interviews
  • Harvesting community experiences with water hazards through History Harvest events:
    • 2 of 9 History Harvests conducted
    • 58 interviews completed
    • 38 mapping activities completed
    • 96 community members engaged

Share Your Story: Join Us at a History Harvest

Lafayette Moncus Park Community History Harvest, April 5, 2025.

Event Dates:

Join us at “History Harvest” community events to share your experiences with local water
hazards and crises.

Researchers from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Jackson State
University, and University of Alabama will host these events in Acadiana, Louisiana, Jackson,
Mississippi, and Mobile, Alabama to explore your knowledge and attitudes toward water crises.

Participate in activities, share your story in a 10-minute recorded interview for local archives, and
help develop solutions for community water hazard mitigation. Eligible participants must be
over 18, interested in water issues, and have lived in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama.
